Chapter 13: Change is coming

The cool air blew through the darkness brushing against Whisper’s fur as he started to walk down the sidewalk, the hard cement seeming odd compared to his normal fluffy carpet in the house. He fixed his brown short sleeved hoodie putting the hood up to try and keep warm and also to look a bit more intimidating. His black pants swayed some in the wind as he made his way on the side walk.  The white tiger had recently gotten off the phone with Don having not told him where he was going, due to wanting to show he was tough enough to do things by himself and that Don didn’t need to always worry about him. Whisper felt a bit chilled and freaked out as he looked around, the night life was a bit spooky to him, yeah the town wasn’t terrible with crime, if you stayed out of the down town bit, but still it felt unnaturally dark. Whisper’s ears twitched as he heard something moving in the alley way as he passed by it, he quickly looked over and saw a cat pouncing on top of a rat. He let out a relieved sigh and continued walking. maybe this was a bad idea... Maybe I should have just stayed home. He thought this as he picked up the pace, the lights in the town were a comforting feeling but still, darkness was not something he was used to. A soft whistling came from the wind as it passed the buildings seeming to make a soft melody to calm Whisper as he continued his trek.

Whisper looked around and then stopped putting his hand on his forehead rubbing it some looking around him. … Don, I really... Gah I wish you were here... the tigers bravery was starting to dwindle as he continued walking, he never knew he could be so freaked out, he had never experienced this before in his entire life. He always knew Don would be there to protect him; the raccoon was like a living shield. He blushed some thinking about all the times he and Don had gotten into tussles with each other, arguing about silly things like, whether to go to the movies or go out to eat. Whisper could remember how quickly Don would turn situations from arguing into hugging or kisses, the raccoon didn’t enjoy arguing, not that Whisper did, but sometimes it seemed like Don was protecting him from himself.

He put his hand in his pocket and looked around taking out his cell phone and opening it. “Maybe... I should tell Don... He should know where I’m going.” He said this out loud trying to convince himself this was the thing to do, but at the same time, he wanted to be brave. He started walking again and put his cell phone away, it wouldn’t be long until he was at his destination. He decided maybe it would be best to jog, if he wanted to get there any sooner. He started running towards his destination, he was close upon it, and it wouldn’t be much longer. As he ran his thoughts ran with him, he thought about meeting Don, his life with Don, all of the love making, the cuddling, and all the comfort that the large raccoon gave him. He smiled while thinking of one specific memory he had with his raccoon, one that he would never forget.

“Whisper, hey, are you alright?” The large raccoon stood over Whisper looking down at him as the tiger was in his arms. Don ran his hand through the white tigers bloodied up fur, and looked in deep concern at the bruised figure of the small tiger. He started to slowly pick him up and walk back towards his car all the way whispering to the tiger to be calm and that he would be alright.

Whisper laughed some and then smiled blood on his white teeth. “Hey, I don’t want to mess up your car, its expensive...” The tiger said this trying to stay calm, he really didn’t want to mess up Don’s nice ride, it wasn’t a cheap car that was for sure. The tiger let out a soft groan as he was placed down in the car his bloodied up body turning the white upholster a crimson color. He glanced over towards Don and tried to smile again his strength starting to fade. “Thank you.”

Don reached over into the car and placed his hand on the Tigers cheek and then smiled at him. “You can thank me later, for now rest sweet one.” He rubbed the tiger’s cheek and then ran around the car getting into the driver seat and driving off, and as he did this the tigers vision faded.

Whisper was back to running now his eyes a little watered up, he couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have been found by such a sweet raccoon. Even though the memory wasn’t the best, it was the start of his relationship with Don. The raccoon had helped him through so much, his issues with accepting himself, his issues with basically being homeless after being fired, and his self confidence issues, Don had been there through it all taking care of him every step of the way. Whispers thought process stopped as he felt himself falling over something on the side walk tumbling onto the ground and falling against his chest and face. “ooowwww.. F-fudge... fudge!!!” Whisper said moving around so he could rub his face, thankfully he wasn’t too badly hurt, just a bit sore. He opened his eyes and looked in front of him seeing two dark feet in front of him. He looked up and could see a completely dark figure. He gulped, and looked around quickly to make sure it was just them, but as he turned to look back at the figure it had disappeared. Whisper sat up and looked around again, what had just happened, there was no way he was seeing things. “H-Hello?” Whisper called out looking about before pushing himself up and onto his feet.

The tiger shivered some then looked up, he was really close to his destination, he was actually right at the gates. “The park... finally.” Whisper signed, well whatever he had seen had left, so he should be alright, but he was a bit worried about himself, maybe he should let Don in on what was going on. Whisper brought out his cell phone and scrolled through his contacts before he reached Don’s he had a picture of the raccoon’s chest as his identification picture. He smiled some the sight of his boyfriend was something that could put him in good spirits. He then started writing a text to the raccoon. It didn’t take long for him to text the message, being all he wrote that he was going to the park, and that he wanted Don to come look for him if he didn’t reply in twenty minutes.

He closed his phone then looked back at the gateway to the park. “Well, I honestly don’t know what Lione wanted to do here, but whatever when a friend needs you, you go.” Whisper sighed and then started down the path into the park. Lione had said to meet him at the basketball course, it was odd but it was the place where he and Lione had actually became friends. He didn’t think it would take long to get there so now he really didn’t have to worry about anything. He was a tiger in the end all, what would he have to be scared of; he could handle himself in any situation right?

The tiger continued down the path, it seeming like he was going down memory lane, he glanced over and saw a somewhat familiar bush, well honestly it would be easy to get confused, but it still looked like the spot he and Don had gone cloud watching. He smiled some and let out a soft purr remembering cuddling with Don, he and the raccoon had a lot of memories in that park, it being the main park of course. He could almost feel the warmth of his raccoon’s chest against him. He felt a vibration in his pocket and reached down checking it, it was Don letting him know he would check on him if he didn’t get back to him in twenty minutes. Whisper smiled, it still made him feel odd, but he knew that this was a more grown up way to do things, if he just went out by himself with no one knowing where he was, he could end up in danger.

Whisper knew that Don would be watching the clock to make sure that twenty minutes didn’t pass before he heard from Whisper; Don was usually very protective of Whisper especially when he went out at night. Inside he felt like, he should write one more message to Don before he got to the basketball court. He looked at his phone took a few seconds then sent a text to Don. After he finished he let out a heavy breathe before re-reading the text out loud. “Hey, Don, I just wanted to let you know I love you, and my heart is yours for today, and every day to come.” Whisper smiled as he pressed send, now that things were in order it was time to continue.

The tigers eyes focused on the path in front of him, and then the basketball course, he had made pretty good time getting to the court. He glanced around he didn’t see Lione, odd that he would set something up and then not even show up to it. “Hello, Lione?” Whisper called out before he heard foot steps coming from the other side of the court. He glanced over and saw Doug coming across the basket ball court. Whisper was confused as to what was going on; he had thought that Lione just wanted him there by himself. Then whatever was going on definitely had nothing to do with a fight with Doug. He shuttered a little, something seemed off. “Hey Doug, what are you doing out here?”

Doug after running into Margaret at the main strip in town headed right for the park, he hadn’t expected to see anyone there being that Lione had asked for him to come for some kind of romantic date or something, at the basketball court. Weird idea, but whatever Lione wanted to do Doug would of course easily comply. He hadn’t really dwelled on the fact, though he did wonder why Whisper was there too if it was supposed to be some kind of date. Doug continued towards Whisper and across the black pavement of the basket ball course. “Hey Whisper, I didn’t expect to see you here, I came for a date with Lione.” Doug was pretty confused, as he looked around he and Whisper were the only ones in sight, where the heck was Lione?

Whisper put his paws on his hips and then glanced down at his feet then back at Doug rubbing his own chin. What had really been planned, what was actually going on? “I came to meet Lione too; he said he had something to talk to me about.” He didn’t really know Lione all to well, maybe this was some sort of silly prank, but seeing Doug just as confused as he was made him wonder, there may have been another reason for both of them being brought there.

Elsewhere in a dark room heavy breathing rang out against the woodened walls. A small raccoon twitched in the darkness, his ears perking up as he heard a small thud against the window. The raccoons eyes quickly darted to the window, seeing a tree limb poking against it the wind making it softly thud against the glass panes. Rigby sat up some in the bed looking down at Mordecai who was lying away from him. He let out a soft yawn not too much time had really passed since the two had fallen asleep. He smiled and got out of the bed stretching out and letting out a yawn, he felt as if he needed a glass of water.

Rigby silently crept over towards the door to leave the room. He grabbed the door handle and slowly twisted it pushing the door open slowly and quietly so not to wake Mordecai. As he left the room he looked down either ends of the hallway to make sure Pops wasn’t up and about, that lollipop man can be loud even at night. Rigby smiled as it seemed all clear; at least he didn’t need to have to deal with Pops craziness. He finished closing the door and then started toward the stairs making his way down them silently, thankfully due to his small figure it made creeping around a lot easier. He placed his feet on the living room floor and looked towards the kitchen, it was pretty dark but thankfully his night vision made seeing a little easier. He continued creeping towards the kitchen, and then started walking normal as he entered through the threshold. The raccoon moved to the fridge and opened looking inside for a snack, but there really wasn’t all too much within.

As he closed the door he looked towards the back door, then out the window, it seemed really dark, he didn’t pay it any heed as he went to the cupboard and grabbed a glass, he jumped up onto the counter reaching up and grabbing it, before jumping off and heading to the fridge again. He pushed it against the water dispenser and watched as the water filled the glass. So, now I’m with Mordecai, forever... this... is a lot to take in but, I’m so glad... Rigby smiled some taking the glass and putting it to his lips feeling relief as the cold liquid ran passed his lips and into his mouth against the dry sides of it. He looked over to the door again and smiled, he and Mordecai were like Don and Whisper, happy and together forever. Nothing would ever separate them, they were stuck like glue. I wonder if Don and Whisper would want to do a double date? Rigby pondered the thought as he took another drink from his cup finishing it; he put the glass on the table and then stretched. “Well, I guess, time to hit the hay again.” Rigby said this turning and starting back through the living room rubbing his tail along the side of the couch, he was ready to feel the warmth of his blue-jay again.

He started up the stairs tip toeing as to not make a single creak, the last thing he wanted to do was make it wake up Pops, Mordecai could probably sleep through it but Pops would be up and freaking out. As he continued up the steps he thought more about his and Mordecai’s fresh new relationship wondering how long it would last and how well the two of them would work out together. He smiled some, he was certain things would work well, though he was still a bit worried about the Enoil thing, what if the warlock had gotten away? What if he would try to get to them and get revenge? Rigby shook some before glancing down the stairs, and then back up to the top. Will me and Mordecai always be here? Rigby wondered if maybe they would get an actual house and actual jobs, or just stay there forever. Rigby continued up the stairs until he reached their room opening the door and slowly creeping in closing the door silently behind him.

As he entered the room he heard a soft ping, he looked around and then realized it was the sound of his phone going off. He quickly darted to it and shut off the noise so it didn’t wake up Mordecai, he didn’t know why someone would be calling him so late at night. He glanced to see who it was before answering seeing that it was Don calling, that probably was not a good thing, why in the world would his little brother be calling him so late at night for.  Rigby snuck out of the room as he opened the phone putting it to his ear. “Hold on a second Don.” He slipped through the hallway and went into the bathroom so that he wouldn’t wake anyone. He put the phone back up to his ear as he leaned against the sink. “Alright, Don, what’s going on?” Rigby asked this he was a bit worried, but he was sure it was just something silly.

“Rigby, hey Whisper sent me a text a while ago and said he was heading to the park, to the basketball court to be exact, he said to check on him if he didn’t text back in twenty minutes, and I’m worried he hasn’t written me back yet.” There was an obvious amount of concern and worry over the phone. Don talking faster then normal and his words seeming to jumble together. There was a little racket on the other side of the phone.

Rigby grunted and then looked to the door and then back to his phone. “Alright, get yourself down here, I’ll go look for him, I’m sure everything is going to be fine Don.” Rigby said with a hopeful tone, what bad could happen to anyone in the park? Rigby opened the bathroom door and started down the stairs taking his time so not to startle anyone, thankfully outside was lit up by streetlights once you got a bit away from the park house so he didn’t really need a flashlight to go searching. As he got to the bottom of the stairs he heard Don on the other end of the phone.

“Alright Rigby, I’ll be down in a few minutes let me know if you see him, remember check the basketball court first...” Don sounded like he was holding back from crying, Rigby thought it was a bit of an over reaction but he didn’t really say anything about it. Don spoke once more before shutting the phone off. “Rigby, please hurry.” The phone cut out and Don’s voice left it, the phone went dark.

Rigby put on a jacket and put the phone inside of the pocket before heading to the front door, he didn’t think it was going to be a big deal so he was going to go by himself instead of waking up Mordecai. As he walked out into the cold air he shivered looking around in the darkness around the house. “Well to the basketball course I suppose.” Rigby started down the steps and onto the path putting his hands in the pockets on his jacket looking around just to make sure Whisper had not come to the house for some reason, but there was no sight of the tiger anywhere in the general vicinity. Rigby quickened his steps; his small feet pattering along the ground, he didn’t know why Don was so worried what could even happen in the park, bad things only happen when he and Mordecai start them. Rigby continued down the path a cold wind starting to pick up, Rigby shivered and looked up at the sky, the moon had gone black, the sky completely dark. “.. That’s not normal.” Rigby looked forward; maybe Don was right to be worried. Normally there would be a star or two in the sky but right now there was nothing, he gasped and then decided he needed to push forward, he needed to find Whisper for Don.

As Don hung up from Rigby he went to his front door grabbing a jacket for himself and a flash light, he wanted to make sure he was prepared to the best of his abilities. The larger raccoon looked back down at his phone, nothing from Whisper his phone was still silent, he put the phone in his jackets pockets and then opened his front door. He looked out the door as he opened it looking into the dark sky, the moon had even hid that night, Don shivered; it was cold and dark outside. Why would Whisper do anything on a night like this, was the small tiger insane? He could see the park from on top of his hill though he couldn’t make anything out; it was just lights and trees from what he could actually see. Don looked back into his house, it seemed so empty without Whisper in it, he looked back towards the park determined he would get there and he would bring Whisper home, and punish him with extra amounts of sugar for worrying him.

Don closed the door to his house locking the door then jumped into his corvette slamming the key into the ignition. He twisted his key in the starter a few times trying to get his car to start. His car started up with a loud roar, Don was set to go; he didn’t care if it embarrassed Whisper or not if he showed up. He wanted to make sure his kitten was safe. He turned his head and started backing down the drive-way, he knew Rigby would be out and searching, still he wanted to be there to double the efforts. He backed down out of his driveway and started on the main road pushing down on the pedal hard. “Whisper, I’m coming.” Don spoke this out into the night, he was worried, he didn’t honestly have a reason to worry, after all, Whisper could of just forgot to write him back. Don gripped the steering wheel tighter as he continued down the road; he didn’t live awfully far from the park, so the drive wouldn’t take long. Don kept his eyes on the road, and focused on just getting to the park.

As he drove, his mind did start to wander to the worse case scenarios, like what if Whisper had gotten hurt, what if he got kidnapped, silly things that most likely would not happen. Whisper you better be ok... you better be... He just was glad that the last time they spoke they were on good terms, not that he wanted to think the worst was going to happen but in the worse case scenario; Don thought back for a moment, of all the reasons he loved Whisper, his smile, his innocence, his kindness to those who were cruel to him even. Don sighed, no way could Whisper have gotten hurt; he was too good of a guy to ever have something bad happen to him.

He glanced at his phone on the passenger seat to see if he had received a text message from Whisper, but the screen remained dark. No texts, nothing.  Don sighed. Whisper was probably alright, but he couldn't help but worry.  He turned his eyes back on the road, just in time to find himself face to face with an oncoming car. Panicked, he turned the wheel and narrowly avoided a collision. Yet he never let off the gas. Cars left and right were but a blur and finally he reached the park, breaking and turning the wheel in a cacophony of screeching tires which left him neatly along the sidewalk.

Don shoved his phone back into his pocket but not before checking it one last time. Disappointed and worried, he quickly hopped out of the car and slammed the door shut. As he walked to the front of the park, his eyes filled with determination. Staring into the dimly lit park, he knew he was going to find his boyfriend. "I'll find you, Whisper."

About ten Minutes before Don had warned Rigby about the situation, Whisper stood with Doug in the basketball park. The two were waiting for Lione to show himself and clear up their confusion, Whisper had sat on the court leaning against a basketball hoop as he waited, Doug kept pacing anxiously in front of the tiger waiting for time to pass by.

Whisper let out a yawn as he stretched his back against the hoop. “Doug… how long are we supposed to wait for Lione?” The tiger asked, his voice betraying his exhaustion. He was ready to fall asleep, and the walk back to Don’s house was a long one. Whisper crossed his legs the fabric making a small squeak as it moved across itself. The tiger’s gaze stayed on Doug as the otter continued his pacing; honestly it wasn’t going to get the otter anywhere, but each to their own. “Doug?” Whisper asked this raising an eyebrow in contemplation, what was going on in the otters mind.

Doug stopped pacing for a minute to turn his attention onto the white furred feline. “I’m sorry Whisper; I’m still trying to wrap my mind around what’s going on here I honestly don’t know how long to wait.” The otter spoke as he started pacing again, his tail plopped along the ground each step he took, and he was still trying to understand Lione’s reasoning for lying to both himself and the tiger. Doug looked at Whisper and stopped once again; just looking at the white tiger as he sat there. “So Whisper, what do you think is going on, why does Lione want us both here?” Doug cocked a brow in curiosity; he wished to see what the tiger’s opinion on the current situation was. Doug’s own opinion on the situation was still cloaked with un-known facts.

Whisper put his hands against the graveled ground and lifted himself to his feet looking around. “Honestly, I don’t know, he could want us here for a number of reasons but, it seems he only wants us here no one else… I do wonder where the fennec fox is though. Is it normal for your boyfriend to leave you waiting like this, just curious, not trying to be rude or anything by saying that?” An awkward laugh left the tigers lips as he finished the sentence he didn’t want to be cruel or anything that was not his reason for asking. The tiger put his paws in his pockets, trying to remain warm as he looked around.  The cold seemed to worsen as the night became darker.  He took a deep breath, slowly releasing the air as it turned to fog in front of him.

Doug crossed his arms and then looked down he couldn’t really recall Lione standing him up or taking a long time to get anywhere, maybe something had happened to the otters boyfriend. “It’s unlike him to not be on time, and don’t worry you’re just being curious, I do however share in your wonder though.” Doug grabbed his cell phone out of his pocket checking it to see if Lione had wrote him, but as he looked at it, he saw his phone was dark, out of battery, it seemed. He was astonished after finding this out; he had just recently charged his phone to make sure that it would be ready for the whole day. Doug glanced over towards Whisper and spoke. “Hey, does your phone have any battery left?” Doug was hoping maybe Whisper’s phone had some battery in it; he wanted to get a hold of Lione and see what was taking him so long to get there.

Whisper pulled his phone out of his pocket and glanced at it, the front screen was dark; he had no battery left in his phone either. “W-What… I just charged this before coming out to be safe... That’s pretty dang weird, I have no battery left on my phone Doug, why, is yours dead?” Whisper looked up from his phone back over at the otter, who nodded his head, he was a little curious as how much time had passed since they had arrived. “Doug, I think it’s probably getting late, I’m going to head home.” Whisper took his hands out of his pockets to zip up his coat; the cold air seemed to press against his body from every angle making him shiver with each second that went by. After he finished zipping his jacket he slipped his hands back into the pockets on his coat. “Doug?” The otter hadn’t responded yet, it had him a little worried.

“Oh, sorry Whisper, maybe just wait a little longer, if he don’t come I’ll walk you home, it would only be fair being Lione made you come out here and yeah, my phone is dead too, just wanted to see if you had any way to contact Lione.” Doug said, coming back to reality after slipping into thought; it was unlike Lione to do something so out of character. Doug rubbed his hands together before propping them against his nose to warm it up; he really hadn’t dressed for it to be so cold out. It didn’t seem cold when he was heading to the park. Doug glanced at his wrist watch, seeing that it had stopped moving as well, now that was weird, but he could have broken it when he ran into Margaret.

Whisper guessed he might as well listen to Doug and continued waiting although the cold was starting to make him feel pretty uncomfortable. He walked over to the bench he and Lione had sat on when they were watching Don and Doug play against Mordecai and Rigby. He sat down on it letting out a soft hiss as his butt planted on it, the metal being cold and pressing through his clothes. “Gah, this bench is freezing! When did the temperature plummet so much, it seemed warmish when I left Don’s house.” Whisper put his paws onto his lap rubbing them against the fabric trying to warm him up some more, he didn’t want to wait, but he would do anything for a friend.

Doug and Whisper waited for a couple more minutes in complete silence, only the wind made noise as it blew through the trees. The night sky has gotten even darker as if the sky was starting to fall down towards them. The wind had started to pick up, and the air had gotten even more frigid, within a small gap of a few minutes. Both Doug and Whisper had been sitting on the bench continuing to wait for their company, still Lione had not shown himself.

“Doug, I just can’t wait no more, its freezing out, and I’m sure Don is getting worried.” Whisper said this while standing up from the bench, glancing back towards the Otter who stood up with him. He felt bad, but once he was home he would let Lione know they had gone home being it was way too cold for either of them to wait any longer. The tiger started off of the basket ball court when he heard a voice yell stop. Both he and Doug turned around looking to see who had spoken out. Whisper let out a soft sigh, finally Lione had shown up, of course just as they were about to leave but still it was good that he had finally shown.

“Lione, what took you so long, I was starting to worry.” Doug walked towards Lione a skip in his step to see his loved one had been fine and just late. He stopped a little bit away from the fennec fox; Whisper was walking close behind him smiling at the fennec fox saying it was good to see him again. Doug studied Lione’s face and saw that his man was crying as a couple tears fell down the fox’s face. Doug continued quickly towards Lione and hugged him wrapping his arms around Lione’s waist. As he hugged the fennec fox he felt a wet drop on top of his head, then he felt Lione’s hands wrap around him.

Rigby continued down the path heading to the basketball court, he still was curious as to why Whisper would be in the park at such a dark time but, he had to find the tiger for his little brother. Rigby slowed down as he got closer to the basketball court making sure to look every other direction to check. His ears perked up as he heard what sounded like Doug, maybe he found Whisper, and was saying something to him. Rigby turned towards the basket ball court and walked towards it. Maybe, I should hide in a bush and just check in, and let Don know everything is alright. Rigby said thinking this was a really good idea he silently crept into the nearest bush where he could see what was going on. As he crawled through the bush he pushed the front of it apart some so that he could see. His eyes lay upon Doug, Lione and Whisper, though something still seemed off. He sat in silence wrapping his tail around him to keep warm, it seemed unnaturally cold now.

Doug let out a sigh as more tears hit his head his arms wrapped a bit tighter around his lover. He rubbed his face into the black jacket that the fox had on his brown fur rubbing off on it leaving small flakes of fur on the fabric. “What’s wrong Lione? Why are you crying what took you so long to get here?” He barraged Lione with these questions as worry washed over him what had happened to Lione that had made him so sad. The fox let out a soft choke before he decided to speak once again.

Lione cleared his throat and then started speaking to both Doug and Whisper. “I… needed to bring you guys here... I just needed to see you guys one more time and to tell you guys how I feel.” Lione kept holding Doug in his arms loving the feeling of his otter against him. His mind was racing with sorrow, fear, and hatred; he really wasn’t ready to do what he needed to do. He needed to let the two know how he felt though, he tried to clear his mind, and then he wiped the tears off of his face and continued his fight to get himself calm.

Whisper gasped, this was definitely a red flag, Lione might be thinking about harming himself. “Hey Lione, don’t do this, we are here for you; I may be a new friend to you, but dude, I care about you and don’t want you doing anything you’ll regret.” Whisper walked a little closer and looked with passion behind his eyes; he would do anything to stop his new friend from hurting himself. Although right now he wasn’t really able to do anything being that Doug was more or less blocking him from giving Lione a friendly hug.

Doug continued hugging Lione he didn’t know what was going on in the fox’s head but he wasn’t going to let go, he didn’t want Lione to leave, not when he was talking so crazy. Doug looked up at Lione’s face and cleared his throat before speaking. “Lione what’s going on? What has gotten into you?” Doug let out a soft sigh, he knew Lione was hard to break sometimes but, he wanted to get the information out of him. He wanted to know what had upset him so much to make him cry so heavily and make him want to talk about his feelings towards the other two.

Lione sighed; he knew what he had to say was going to make the two boys hate him. “Guys... I just…” Lione’s voice stopped quickly he looked down at Doug then back at Whisper, he didn’t want to do this. Lione grasped into Doug’s back his hands digging into the otters clothing. Lione was trying to forget all the good times he had with Doug, but his good memories kept fighting him, they didn’t want to leave his mind. His eyes filled with memories, the one he really needed to get rid of.

“Hey Lione, thanks again for helping me out so much and giving me a place to live, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate it.” An otter stood in front of Lione with a bouquet of flowers in his hand, roses of every color, the sweet smile on the otters face made the fox melt. It was a warm spring day and the two were in front of Lione’s house. Doug shifted some as he stood there, the bouquet out stretched in front of the fox. “I, mean I don’t mean to be forward or anything.” Doug’s face was bright red as he spoke, it could almost seem like steam was rolling off of his cheeks.

Lione chuckled some bending down some and taking the flowers from Doug smelling them. “Aww, Doug... these are beautiful, thank you… I know today was the last day you had scheduled to work on my flower garden, but I do have one more request… Doug, would you please go out with me? I mean it only seems right, I don’t want to kick you out and it would be odd for us to live together otherwise right?” Lione blushed some moving the flowers away from his face so that he could see Doug. He moved one of his paws into his pocket pulling out a small box. He could see by Doug’s reaction he thought it was a ring. “Hah, calm down Doug, It’s just a gift.”

Doug grabbed the box and opened it a pin in the shape of a rainbow, Doug smiled wide and looked up towards Lione. “Of course I’d go out with you Lione, but I don’t want to be a pain in the butt for you.” Doug didn’t think he would be of much help staying with Lione being that the fox wasn’t paying for his services. He looked at the pendant and then glanced back up at Lione to have the fox’s lips press against his own.

As Lione broke the kiss, he whispered. “I don’t mind that.” A coy grin plastered Lione’s face and a blush formed on his own cheeks. Doug and himself laughed for a couple of minutes before Lione moved his hands to show that Doug was free to enter the house he had been living in for the past couple of days. Doug grabbed Lione’s hand and then went into the house, their house.

Lione came back to reality, he grinned some through his tears, the memory giving him a small instance of happiness. Doug had lost the pin not to long after Lione had gotten him it, but still it was a gift he was glad to give the otter. Lione looked down towards Doug then at Whisper, he felt like his own grasp on the world was starting to slip. “Doug, Whisper, I just wanted to tell you two, you make me feel normal… loved even, I just wish to apologize for you two ever meeting me. Especially you Doug, for so long I have been lying to you… I wish I had told you the truth, but I never expected for anything to come of Hyrokkin but… two fools summoned him fourth only to stop him, now he begs for my assistance in bringing him back, and destroying the world. I-I am bound to serve him due to a blood pact, whether I want to or not…” Lione knew the two had no clue what he was talking about.  When Lione was young his parents had both given their lives to make him a powerful warlock, though he was sworn to service Hyrokkin for this power.

“What are you talking about?” Doug and Whisper spoke in unison both of their eyes setting onto Lione who started to radiate a darkness off of him that could be seen in the dim light of the basketball court. Whisper gulped and took a few steps backwards glancing around. Doug tried to break from the hug trying to free himself and get a better look on the situation; he could feel what felt like ice running over his body.

Lione sighed before he opened his mouth to speak once more. “I, I don’t want you two to have to deal with the torment and pain that Hyrokkin will bring, he will have his minions tear you apart and reassemble you.. I don’t want you two, to go through that... I’m sorry.” Lione let one last tear leave his eye and land on top of his loved ones head before his pupils turned black the darkness spreading around him. His clothing started to change, turning into a cloak and hood covering his face in darkness. “I love you.” Lione closed his eyes before purple lighting circulated out of his hands it went through his fingers into Doug’s back. Doug’s fur started to smoke from where the bolts touched, his body twitching as they started to run through out Doug’s body. The purple bolts shot through Doug’s eyes and ear’s. It only took a couple moments and a soft groan before the otter fell to the ground smoke pouring out of his mouth.

Whisper gasped and looked at Doug as the otter’s body hit the group. His eyes filled with tears, what just happened? “Doug! No! What the hell Lione, why did you do that?!” Whisper looked up at the once familiar figure of the fox as the darkness seemed to cloak him covering everything in a dark material. Whisper took a few steps back as the fox started to move closer to him. Lione didn’t answer him but stayed quiet as he continued his approach, Whisper wasn’t expecting this, was this all just a bad dream?

Rigby’s heart skipped a beat as he saw Doug’s body hit the ground from the bushes, the sight of his friend lying dead made him almost puke. His eyes then set on Lione, though as he took a double glance it looked like Lione was actually the warlock from the arcade. “Whisper get out of here!” Rigby jumped fourth out of the bushes running towards Lione... no wait Enoil to try and tackle him down to stop the murderous warlock from hurting Whisper. He had to stop him for Don he wouldn’t allow his little brother’s boyfriend come to any harm, not while he was around. As he ran he felt a pressure against him, some kind of magical force, he then heard a whisper saying it wasn’t his time. As the voice finished its sentence he was flung through the bushes landing on the ground and rolling onto his face. He tried to stand back up but his legs weren’t helping him, his body was in so much pain, too much to move. “Owww… Whisper…” Rigby had to get up he had to go and save Whisper, he had to keep pushing, but everything slowly went black.

Whisper had taken the advantage to run when Rigby came out of the bushes to his aid, though he heard the sound of the bushes crackling and saw Rigby’s body being flung through them. He couldn’t believe it Rigby was now hurt too, he might be dead even. “Rigby!” Whisper stopped and turned to go help Rigby before he felt his body freeze up. He glanced down and then about his head not being able to move, what was happening? Then extreme pain and numbness ran through him simultaneously making his body convulse. His eyesight started to go white as the pain started to leave, the last thing he saw was purple coming off of his hands. Don…

Enoil watched as Whisper collapsed to the ground, he put his sleeve up to his face to wipe away his tears, he didn’t want to do this but he had to. He looked towards where Rigby was and then to where the park house was, it wasn’t Rigby’s or Mordecai’s time, they needed to be used to further his master’s plan. I’m sorry... I wish I didn’t have to do that... He turned towards Doug walking towards him and bending down rubbing his hand over his dead lovers body. Enoil couldn’t be there any more, it was too much stress and sadness, the fox moved his hands to form a signal before darkness covered him, and his body turned into a puff of smoke and started to slowly dissipate into the air.

Not much time had passed as Rigby came back too pushing himself up off of the ground groaning in pain, his legs and back hurt but he had to check on Whisper and Doug. Rigby slowly started to limp towards the basketball court walking around the bush. His eyes first set on Whisper then over to Doug, both laid on the ground limp and not moving. He was closer to Doug; he tried to quicken his pace letting out soft groans each step he took as he came to Doug’s side. He bent down and put his fingers onto Doug’s neck, he tried to feel for a pulse, even just for a couple of breathes, complete silence. Rigby started pushing on Doug’s chest. “Come on Doug... Come back too, your going to be ok.” Rigby tried to bring the otter back to no avail. He stopped and laid his head on the otter’s stomach. “Doug… Doug... no…” Rigby put his paw on the otters face and closed his eyes he couldn’t believe he just saw Doug die. He stood up and turned towards Whisper, he took a second to regain his strength, Whisper... could be dead too. He started towards Whisper before he heard a yell from behind him.

“Whisper?!” Don ran past Rigby bending down beside his boyfriend lifting the tiger’s upper body into his lap. He rubbed his hand through Whisper’s fur, the tiger’s clothes had black marks from the attack and his fur was burnt in small spots. Don could feel a slight pulse, though it wasn’t strong, he sighed maybe, just, maybe Whisper would be alright. He looked over towards Rigby who was limping towards them, the raccoons leg had a gash on it; blood was slowly dripping out of. “What happened?!” Don asked Rigby before he heard a gurgle from below him; his eyes went back down to the tiger lying in his lap. “Whisper... Whisper...”

Whisper gurgled out blood starting to fill his lungs even through the pain he smiled. “I love you Don...” He coughed a little blood coming to the side of his mouth, he knew it was Don, he could sense it. His smile started to fade though as he felt the pain start to get stronger. “I...I wish just...” A small breathe between words. “That, I could see your face one more time...” A tear started in his eyes; he could feel the liquid filling in his eye lid.

Don cringed rubbing his hand over Whisper’s eyes and looking at Rigby. “Call 911 get help!” Don yelled this at Rigby who grabbed his cell phone and started the phone call. Don looked back down at Whisper, his hand cupping the tiger’s cheek; he leaned in and kissed the tiger even if there was blood on his lips. “Whisper shush, just stay strong okay hold on.” Don whispered this to his lover, his hand continuing to caress his kitten’s cheek. He heard Whisper cough once more before speaking.

The tear left Whisper’s eye as he started to speak once more. “Don... I don’t want to die... please don’t let… m…” Whisper’s last word was cut off as his final breathe escaped his mouth, the tear leaving the side of the tigers face and landing onto the gravel floor. The tiger’s body went limp and laid still in the larger raccoons arms.

“Whisper?” Don called the tigers name out to him, not wanting to believe it. “WHISPER!!!” Don’s eyes filled with tears, they started to pour out of his eyes as he leaned his head into Whispers chest. “No... WHISPER... Why… Take me instead! Whisper no, God please no!!!” Don heaved out as he gasped for air between yelling and sobbing, his tiger’s life had just been ripped out of his hands. He wrapped his arms around the limp body pulling it into him hugging Whisper even tighter. He continued crying into Whisper’s fur; he wouldn’t let go.

Thirty minutes passed and the ambulance and police had gotten to the scene taking both Whisper and Doug into the ambulances in body bags, Don road with Whisper in his, not leaving his tiger’s side. Rigby had stayed behind at the park sitting on the bench by the basketball court; his leg had been stitched up by the paramedics. The night had gotten later and things had seemed to calm down, though at the same time everything was still chaos.

“Rigby?” A soft voice called out to Rigby, making the raccoon turn to look, Mordecai stood not far away looking at Rigby concerned. “… I heard the sirens and saw you weren’t lying beside me in bed; I had to check on you. What happen…” Mordecai’s breathe was knocked out of him as the raccoon ran and jumped onto his chest hugging him. He put his arms around Rigby holding him against his chest rubbing his feathered hand along the crevice of the raccoons back. He let out a soft breathe as he felt tiny droplets landing onto his chest and soaking through his feathers. Mordecai had seen Whisper and Doug get put into the bags, so he more or less knew what happened, but he still wanted to hear from Rigby what he saw. “Rigby, are you alright?” Mordecai whispered this out trying to soothe his little raccoon.

Rigby chocked out his words as he started to sob into the blue-jays chest. “I…I saw Lione… Enoil… whatever his name is kill Whisper and Doug, because of us!” Rigby continued sobbing into the chest of his avian, the feathers around him starting to soothe him, he had forgotten the pain in his legs due to the guilt that was weighing him down. Maybe if he had gotten Mordecai to come with him he would have been able to stop it, or both of them would have gotten hurt. “Mordecai… I” He heard a soft shushing come from Mordecai.

“Come on Rigby, lets go back to the house, I’ll carry you, your leg looks like it might hurt.” Mordecai felt a sting of pain in his heart, what did Rigby mean it was their fault, what did they do that ended up with Whisper and Doug being killed. He picked Rigby up and put him in his arms like they were a cradle, he let Rigby’s head lay against his chest so that his heart could lullaby the raccoon to sleep, it was the least he could do, he hadn’t been there to help. We will, fix this somehow… Mordecai continued towards the house, Rigby had already started to snore, he was glad he got Rigby to sleep, he didn’t expect that the raccoon would be getting too much sleep for a while, he didn’t even expect himself to be able to get much sleep. As Mordecai continued towards the house seeing Pops and Skips standing near the porch both of them looked curious as to what had happened.

“Mordecai, what happened, I heard the noises. Are you guys alright?” Skips looked at both of the boys as they walked closer, he could tell that Rigby had a stitched up leg, though Mordecai seemed unharmed. Skips looked behind the two, to make sure nothing was following them due to their shenanigans.

“Pops cover your ears.” Mordecai said this as he stopped, waiting for Pops to listen to his orders, he didn’t think Pops needed to hear such grim news. As the lollipop man covered his ears Mordecai looked over towards Skips and sighed his beak shaping into a frown. “Doug and Whisper have been killed, by Enoil; Rigby said that it was our fault that it happened.” Mordecai looked down at Rigby before patting his hand on the raccoon’s hair. He glanced over towards Pops who was making a slight humming noise to add to his inability to hear Mordecai and Skips’ conversation.

Skips did his normal thinking grunt as he rubbed his chin. “I don’t honestly know what Rigby could mean, but I’m sorry for your loss, I know Whisper and Doug meant a lot to both you and Rigby, or at least it seemed that way.”  Skips looked down then back towards Mordecai he skipped over and patted him on the back. He looked down at Rigby and shook his head some; he cleared his throat before speaking once again. “I’ll do some research into Enoil, see what he is up to, there has to be some kind of reasoning behind this.” Skips of course, was trying to rationalize the horror that Rigby and Mordecai just had seen.

Mordecai more or less growled at Skips. “God dang it Skips there is no reasoning to this! That warlock or whatever he is, is just a fricken monster he killed Rigby’s little brother’s boyfriend, and his own… how does one even rationalize that?!” Mordecai would probably punch Skips if his hands weren’t busy cradling the cute little raccoon in his arms. He heard Skips apologize before he skipped off, obviously not wanting to continue the conversation, or to go and search for some kind of answer as to what all was going on. Mordecai looked back at Pops and spoke softly. “Hey uncover your ears.” Pops didn’t do as asked, due to the fact he still couldn’t hear the blue-jay. Mordecai sighed, how in the world he would make Pops realize he wanted the lollipop man to uncover his ears. He positioned his arms so that he could hold Rigby in just one arm as he went over and took Pops’ hands off of his ears. “You can listen now Pops.” Mordecai said trying to fake a smile, he struggled through it, but he knew how sensitive Pops was.

Pops chipped up asking what had happened as well, he was just as curious as Skips had been. “What happened to little Rigby, is everything alright?” Pops didn’t do his gaily laugh knowing that this was a harsh situation but he had no clue about how harsh and saddening the situation had actually been. Pops looked at Mordecai as his face contorted with thought; it was obvious the blue jay was trying to think up a good way to answer all of Pops’ questions.

Mordecai sighed as he finally spoke; he didn’t plan on laying on the whole truth, just bits and pieces. “Don’s boyfriend and mine and Rigby’s friend got hurt… pretty badly… but don’t worry everything is going to be alright, so it would be best to go to bed.” Mordecai knew that knowing what happened and all would make it easier for Pops to sleep, the lollipop man was a nosey one. Mordecai walked by Pops and tugged on his arm to make him come into the house, it would probably be best if they all went to sleep. Mordecai let Pops go up the stairs first while he locked up the door and took off Rigby’s jacket taking the phone out of it. He looked down at his sleeping raccoon and smiled some, he was glad Rigby was okay, he still felt bad for Don though.

“Mordecai, I... I’m sorry for what its worth. Let Rigby know.” Pops seemed pretty naïve for the most part, but he did have a clue as to what was actually going on, he could hear even though he had his ears covered up. Pops continued up the stairs and out of sight of Mordecai and Rigby who were on the bottom of the stairs.

Mordecai smiled a little more, he needed to try and be the light in such a dark situation for Rigby, he had to be there to support Rigby the best that he can. He took a deep breathe and then started heading up the stairs. As he made his way upstairs he heard a few small grumbles from his arms, he looked down at Rigby who was rolling a bit in his arms, the raccoons eyes were red, and not for the same reason muscle man’s were most of the time. Mordecai ran a feather over Rigby’s head; he felt bad for Rigby having to see everything he witnessed; he wished that he could just go and take it all away, make everything better for Rigby. He wished he had been there to stop everything from happening, he just, didn’t know about what had happened, or that anything was going to happen. Mordecai finished climbing the steps and got to their door opening it and going inside. He softly closed the door behind him and then laid Rigby on the bed placing the phone on the end table. He felt a tug on one of his tail feathers and looked back at Rigby.

“I love you Mordecai…” Rigby didn’t know what else to say, was anything able to last forever in a time with warlocks who killed innocent people was going around? He glanced up towards Mordecai as the blue jay descended upon him getting on all fours above the raccoon. He smiled, even though it seemed a bit intimidating he also felt safe with Mordecai above him. “What?” Rigby said rubbing his eyes; they were scratchy from crying so much. As he closed his mouth from speaking Mordecai’s beak kissed it, Rigby blushed and then grinned as Mordecai pulled away.

“I love you too Rigby, now go back to sleep alright?” Mordecai grabbed Rigby and rolled so that Rigby was on his chest and Mordecai’s arms were around him. Mordecai snuggled his beak on top of Rigby’s head softly nuzzling him with the tip of his beak, planting soft kisses on Rigby’s head. Mordecai waited for a few minutes as he heard Rigby fall asleep once again, he was glad that the raccoon was such a quick sleeper. He ran his hand along Rigby’s back as the small male breathed against his chest. Mordecai couldn’t see him completely but he could see the small darkened figure moving up and down on his chest as he breathed. He let out a small giggle, seeing Rigby like this made all of his own worries seemed to just leave his mind. He thought to how Don was going to deal with Whisper not being there any more, the raccoon not having someone to lay beside.

Mordecai sighed, he wished he could travel back in time and stop it, but it didn’t seem like things would really work that way. He didn’t have any time machines for the ready, and he didn’t honestly know if he could stop it even if he went back. He continued stroking Rigby’s back; he really needed to show Rigby he loved him before there was a chance for anything to get worse. He grinned, he knew exactly what he had planned for tomorrow, some way to get Rigby’s mind off of the situation he had to deal with. He continued stroking Rigby’s back letting out a content sigh, until tomorrow he would just enjoy his time with Rigby on his chest. He couldn’t ask for anything else, he was warm and with Rigby, he was just glad that his raccoon wasn’t injured. Well, badly injured, his leg might take a while to fully heal up, but it wasn’t something they couldn’t
work over. He knew Skips would give them a break due to everything that happened. He was glad for that; at least if Skips was still his normal self that is.

Mordecai continued holding onto Rigby as he closed his eyes, he knew things were not looking the best but he had plans to make things better the next day. As he fell asleep all he could think of was making Rigby happy.
